My work explores female identity as a locus of strength within a world of fragmentation and complexity. The portrait-style faces in my paintings feature blurred and abstracted edges resolving into areas of tight detail, often with a direct gaze. By incorporating these two extremes of painting into a single work, I explore the female psyche as both direct and fluid, and composed of strength and decisiveness as well as grace. By focusing on the face of my subjects only, I explore the female as a psychological, intellectual and emotional entity, rather than a body or object.
This work is painted on dura-lar film, a translucent archival film similar to vellum, and can be framed in a simple black frame upon request.
